New Directions
The landscape elements painted on my Early Spring pieces highlight the whiteness of porcelain with a bright palette of green, blue, and red underglazes. I am also doing work that contrasts in technique and palette.
Water etching
By applying wax to sections of each piece and then sponging the dry clay away in adjacent un-waxed areas, I create patterns in relief. Using brushwork similar to my Early Spring pieces but in wax, branching trees or stems are suggested rather than depicted.
Earth tones
In these pieces I have begun to explore the nature of materials by experimenting with earth tones and with glaze techniques of pouring and dipping. Patterns result from the properties inherent to the glazes and how they overlap on horizontal or vertical surfaces.
